Overview

Using Google Slides, students will create a digital slideshow that showcases their learning. Google Slides is an application where in just minutes the students can create a rich slideshow.

Students will:

  • Be able to explore and save four-five images from a website.
  • Be able to create and save digital artwork.
  • Be able to create a multimedia artifact using Google Slides.

Vocabulary Words:

  1. Multimedia: Multimedia is using more than one medium of expression or communication.

To prepare for this lesson:

  • Students should have a basic understanding of finding photos online and saving them to a folder as the students will be using photos to create a slideshow.

  • Photos can also be accessed in Google Slides but it is a nice lesson to show them how to find safe images elsewhere.

  • If students are not familiar with saving pictures, the lesson is still doable but will take you longer.

  • The teacher can also save photos for students to access in a shared folder.
  • Create your own Slideshow so you can walk students through the lesson.

See the Accommodations Page and Charts on the 21things4students website in the Teacher Resources.

Directions for this activity:

  1. Depending on time, this could be shown during one class session or can be broken into two class sessions.
  2. The teacher will begin by saying, “Today we are going to learn about new ways to share what we have learned. Sometimes we share with posters, or we write...today will we learn how to make a slideshow to share out learning.”

Part One:

  1. Demonstrate Pics4Learning and/or Photosforclass
  2. Show students how to find a picture and save it correctly to a file.
  3. Allow time for exploring. Have them locate three pictures and save them.
  4. Here you can insert a lesson, (Save three pics of your famous person, and Save three pictures of the geometric shape you chose.)

Part Two: This one will take 20-30 min depending on what your expectations are.

  1. Demonstrate Google Slides. Create a show as you go.
  2. Demonstrate how to:
    1. Log in.
    2. Upload photos.
    3. Add title and music.
    4. Edit captions to add information to their slides.
    5. How to share it.
    6. Allow the students time to create.

Different options for assessing the students:

  • Observations
  • Check for understanding
  • See attached the rubric
